Dubbo Zoo

Dubbo zoo features all the favourite animals brought from Australia, Africa, Asia and North America. It is an excellent vocational stop with your family and children if you are planning for a great weekend.

A visit to the Western Plains Zoo (Dubbo Zoo)

Without doubt, the Dubbo zoo is one of the exhilarating spots for people of all ages. It was first inaugurated on 28th February, 1977. The Taronga Conservation Society heads the main authority of the zoo. Spread on the 300 hectare area, the lavish collection of 800 different animals from various parts of the world is something to enjoy. Ranging from friendly and endangered species, the big gang includes giraffes, zebras, hippos, elephants, lions, cheetahs, white rhinoceros, Galapagos turtle, ring tailed lemurs, antelopes, echidnas, Bengal tiger and many more. The entire zone is visitor-friendly and crowd-pleasing.

The Western Plains zoo is a slice of Africa, which introduces you with the wildlife beauty. The zoo christened its name to Taronga Western Plains Zoo on 21st January, 2008. Its mission was to draw the main attraction to the praising work of the Tarong Conservation Society Australia.

View and watch the animals in your own transport

Dubbo Zoo is an open range zoo, which means that the animals are spread out over a large area and you can use different modes of transport to see them. There is a 6km loop road that winds in and out of animal areas. You can drive through them in your car, or ride a bicycle or an electric cart. (You can hire bicycles and electric carts from the zoo). Many of the animal areas do not have enclosures, which means that you are really, really close!!!

Dubbo Zoo tickets

The zoo has a special rule allowing you to browse through the zoo details for two consecutive days, on which your ticket will be valid. The most noticeable fact about the zoo is that it spreads over a whole range area, thus not giving you the sight barrier of fences and thick rods.

Visiting the zoo with your parents is a common childhood memory, but have you ever thought of immersing yourself in ambush and taking a peek at the wild animals, without coming to their notice? The feeling catches on the nerve of the real life experience in the woods.

Stay at the Zoo! Zoofari Lodge

At the end of the day, you will love to rest your tired bones at the Zoofari lodge, lying on the zoo premises. Luxury and comfort are the two key words of experiencing your best time at the Dubbo zoo. Besides, you will find the number of refreshments quite fascinating.

What else to see near Dubbo Zoo?

The Macquarie River next to the zoo offers the most fascinating view of the river banks. A long walk along the river will take you through the Dubbo parklands and the great fishing spots.
